P1 Personal attributes valued by employers

Personal attributes valued by employers

Attributes that employers value are your general attributes, specific attributes and your attitudes.
A part time job I would like to do is to either be at any shop (argos, smyths, co op etc) and I would do shelf stacking or behind the till.

General attributes

Communication: This will be how you generally communicate to other. It is also needed for the use in team work because good communication between team mates is better than trying to say everything at once.
Problem solving: This will be good as this would work out in many situations so for example in a team where your team has to work something out together.

Specific attributes

Health and safety: This will be critical as this will see if you care about peoples safety.
Passion: A lot of the jobs you will do will require you to be passionate about what you are doing because they would not hire people who just don't like what they are doing or just being lazy.

Attitudes

Behaviour: This is valued because employers don't like people who are disrespectful to other workers as this would be childish.
Attendance: This is important because a employer wouldn't want to hire a person who gets paid for nothing. Attendance is crucial to a company as it won't always work with missing people.

Past Present Future

Past Present Future

Past

In the past, in primary school, I was thinking about being a scientist rather than an IT student. When it came to a lesson in the IT room I was always excited. Primary school near yr5 and 6 were the years that kicked off my feeling for computers. Secondary school escalated the need to be on a computer. Secondary school helped improve my ICT skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. During secondary school I made a homework log on my netbook using Access 2010. This I found was a great way to show my skills. When I was near the end on my school (yr11) we were introduced to a new tutor and new yr7s. I wasn't sure if the new tutor was ok so on the first day he introduced himself to the group and I was watching for any key things. A few of them I found out is that he is funny, loves computers, not so serious and is not very strict. Then I talked to him we became good 'friends' very quickly. One of my key aspects is how friendly I am to anyone (even bullies) which came useful to talking to new people to the school or to young ones. This then helped me build friendship with then and that is when they trusted me with some of their problems.
During my past I have played games and started understanding of how they work/made. A few months back Ted Turnbull gave me a list of things to get ready for my upcoming course. One of the items were a book for HTML5 and JavaScript programming. When I received the book, off amazon, I was really excited and I went straight onto the laptop and made a first web document using HTML5. During the past the career I wanted to do was set by 3 IT Technician, Scientist and race car driver. The last went out the winder when I was 14 realising that doing that will require me to be very fit, to always travel, can be risky and a lot more. Being a scientist, which I got a B grade in science, went away when I was looking for a course. Every science course was not really what I was looking for so looking closer to what I love ,which would be games and computers, this course was the one for me. :)

One of the problems in the past, which have improved over many years, is my handwriting. It was awful in primary school but improved dramatically. This was because My dad help me improve my hand writing by using TIC TAC TOE. A very good but old book. I have trouble speaking other languages and for some reason no matter how hard I try I can never get it right even with a lot of help. In secondary school I was given a netbook (which I still have) and during my time there I used it to type up work because it was important for assessments as this means my teacher can read my work and give me a good mark.

While I was waiting for my first day at collage I decided to try and improve my HTML5 skills and start using JavaScript. I used eclipse for JavaScript and that was very fun.

Present

Now I'm in college I have started to get a grip in computers and I'm already looking to the future with the knowledge I'm gaining from these lessons. Right now sitting in this blue chair in room B205 completing this work I always have in the back of my mind thinking of what career I would do. Every time I do a different lesson I always think "what could I do if I was very good at this?" and this then keeps me thinking of the future.

Just now I was stuck trying to figure out on one of my HTML5 pages when I put in the a colour property and it wouldn't do anything. I solved this problem by using bloggers HTML tab. I found out that the property only works when you do color not colour.

How far I am into the plan is that I have started a HTML5 page with the knowledge I know so far which would be <p>,<ul>,<ol>,<li>,<a href></a>,<h1>,<n2>,<h3> etc. I know these tags are used by professionals. I have only done a little bit of JavaScript done but then it got wiped from my computer when it crashed.

Future

After this course I would like to find a job that fits what I do best when I leave this college. I want to go to university but it's to expensive so I can't. I would like to get a job where I could combine my skills in IT and have science in the mix. This would great as this combine my two greatest subjects into one smooth cake mix. Sure there will be bumps along the way but that won't put me off.

My future plan is to fine tune my skills so that when I get a job I have a better chance of getting it and doing it. something I can improve especially in the future is my JavaScript skills.
